Taiwan’s benchmark fell 1,374 points to 41,574.72 on Thursday, its lowest close since late July, as foreign investors sold a heavy NT$102.5 billion, MediaTek and UMC dropped nearly 7%, and the Taiwan dollar touched an 18-month low near the NT$33 line.
The TAIEX closed down 0.83% at 42,948.91 on Wednesday, but the number hides a 1,885-point intraday round trip — the fourth-largest on record — as NT$149.9 billion of foreign selling collided with domestic dip-buying on NT$1.11 trillion of turnover.
Taiwan’s benchmark plunged 3.59% to 43,307.54 on Tuesday, breaking below 44,000 as the US AI-capex repricing hit chip names. Foreign investors dumped NT$107.3 billion in the cash market and the TWD slid to 32.80.

The TAIEX surged 939 points (+2.04%) to 47,035.58 on Wednesday, retaking the 47,000 mark as semiconductors tracked a 3.6% overnight SOX rally. All three institutional groups bought — foreigners returned with NT$15.9B of net purchases — while MediaTek leapt 6.94% ahead of Friday’s investor conference.
Reopening after a four-day holiday, the TAIEX rode a 900-point intraday round trip to close up 0.12% at 46,096.23. Investment trusts bought NT$23.65B while foreign investors sold for a second straight session, and memory names surged on DDR4 supply-gap projections.
Taiwan’s benchmark opened higher on a strong US tech close, touched 47,332 intraday, then reversed to finish down 1.81% at 46,041 — the session low — as foreign investors sold a net NT$81.66 billion and S&P futures slid during Asian hours.
Taiwan stocks snapped back on TAIFEX settlement day, with the TAIEX closing up 594.84 points at 46,887.77. Foreign investors turned net buyers for the first time in eleven sessions, investment trusts bought heavily, and financials led the tape.
