Taiwan’s benchmark fell 1,656 points to 46,969.87 on Thursday as a hot US CPI print triggered the heaviest single-day foreign net selling on record. TSMC posted record Q3 results after the close.
The TAIEX closed at a record 49,822.55 on Tuesday after coming within roughly 31 points of the 50,000 mark intraday, but all three institutional groups combined sold NT$20.79 billion net, MediaTek fell 4.7%, and NT$975.9 billion changed hands in a heavy, two-sided session.
Taiwan’s TAIEX added 0.25% to a fresh all-time high of 48,475.74 on Friday, its third straight gain, as money rotated into optical communication, PCB and petrochemical names while TSMC, MediaTek and Hon Hai all closed lower. All three institutional camps were net buyers, led by investment trusts at NT$4.91 billion.
The TAIEX finished at an all-time closing high of 48,353.49 (+0.86%) on Thursday, closing at the session top on NT$837.4 billion turnover. Foreign investors bought a net NT$21.94 billion, UMC jumped 4.53%, and passive components saw a wall of limit-ups.
Taiwan’s benchmark rose 0.65% to 47,940.13 on the final day of September, sealing a 3.93% monthly gain at all-time highs. Foreign investors net bought NT$29.64 billion, glass-substrate and silicon-wafer names went limit-up, and the TWD held near 31.85 after testing 31.9.
Taiwan stocks snapped a six-session winning streak Thursday, with the TAIEX easing 0.28% to 48,024.60 as foreign investors sold a net NT$33.8 billion ahead of the four-day Mid-Autumn break. TSMC dragged, MediaTek bucked the trend, and the Taiwan dollar softened to 31.82.
The TAIEX closed Friday at 47,180.75, up 1.93%, as a 3.14% overnight surge in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index lit up Taipei’s chip complex. MediaTek and UMC led, and foreign investors bought a net NT$86.99 billion in the cash market.
The TAIEX rose 0.96% to 46,288 on Thursday, retaking the 46,000 line on NT$819.4 billion of turnover as all three institutional camps bought. Foreign investors added NT$12.19 billion, with TSMC and UMC leading the charge ahead of the CBC’s quarterly meeting.
