TAIEX Slides 1.6% as Foreign Investors Dump NT$89 Billion Ahead of US CPI

Taiwan stocks fell hard on Friday, with the TAIEX losing 755 points to 46,184.85 as hot US wholesale inflation and a 2.7% overnight drop in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index triggered heavy foreign selling. TSMC and MediaTek fell despite record August revenue; shipping and financials bucked the trend.

Taiwan’s benchmark swung more than 700 points intraday before closing up 0.48% at 44,933.74, as TSMC’s late push to NT$2,375 offset an overnight 2.12% drop in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Foreign investors bought NT$3.78B while dealers sold, and capital rotated hard into shipping.
